The Function of a Glass Extension

Posted by in News

What exactly is a glass extension? It isn’t the easiest concept to grasp for someone who is used to conservatories and orangeries alone, or perhaps a solid brickwork extension. A glass extension adds a whole new element to the home – largely because it doesn’t feel like a part of the home at all, but a separate entity, that sits between the indoors and the outdoors. If you had to pick, you would probably say that a glass room, or glass extension, felt more like a part of the outdoors than anything else, because it gives you an open, bright space to enjoy that isn’t hindered by restrictive walls and ceilings.

To summarise a glass extension, it is essentially a glass panelled extension to your home, that is constructed using frameless glass panels. They use external supports, but these can be positioned away from the corners, which means they can give you a panoramic view across the garden or the outdoor space you have. This will allow lots of light into the structure – so much, in fact, that you will feel like you are outside, but with the benefit of shelter from rain, wind and any unpleasant weather.

Are glass extensions really all that different to conservatories?

In short, a glass extension is in many ways very different from a conservatory. Rather than feeling like a small extension to a home that gives you one extra room to use, it feels more like you are bringing the outdoors inside, giving you a new way to enjoy the space that you already have without eating into precious garden space. A garden is such a sought after part of a property, it would be a real shame for you to lose out on this if you want to have more living space.

What is similar to a conservatory is that fact that a glass room extension will make your home more functional. Rather than making you choose between sitting on a patio or sitting inside with very little sense of the outdoors, you will be able to sit in a space where you can enjoy the best of both. This is similar to the function of a conservatory, giving you valuable space that will make a real difference to your home.

How will you use your glass room?

Once you have a glass extension, you will find your own ways to use it. You might even find that it is different to the ways in which you thought you would use it because it’s hard to envisage having that additional space until it is actually there.

A glass extension is a versatile construction that everyone will use differently. It can be fully furnished or furnished more like a patio space to keep that feeling of the outdoors. It will work well as an additional space to relax and entertain. You can also choose glass extensions with movable glass panes, allowing you to open up the glass and ventilate the space – making it feel truly outdoors when this is what you prefer.
