Railway sleepers are versatile pieces of timber that can have all manner of uses around the home. They may be used in the garden for decorating and landscaping, you might use them as internal beams in your home, or you might even use them to build your own furniture. Here are some top ways to use them:

• As decorative beams in a barn conversion. If you want a more rustic look, choose reclaimed sleepers, which will be more weathered. You can also get green wood and other types of new sleepers, but do be careful if using these structurally, as green wood can shrink.
• To build garden seating. Sleepers can easily make up the basis of a comfortable sofa or some garden chairs. Use some pallets as well if you really want to get recycling.
